Sandpipers Treasure Hunt Mixed Media Painting
Sandpipers Treasure Hunt Mixed Media Painting For this painting I incorporated acrylics, oils and a touch of glitter glue. I find sandpipers fascinating to watch as they dart in and out of the waves in search of bugs and shellfish. I’ve discovered Sandpipers prefer being grounded over being “flighty” with a strong desire to focus on the task at hand. Due to moving so fast, they’re hard to see close up while at the beach, so my intent was to use my photos to capture them in a moment of time and paint them close up for all to enjoy. To order prints or other specialty items go to: BethBasista.pixels.com
Moose In Snow at Sunset - Watercolor 8x10
Moose In Snow at Sunset - Watercolor 8x10I used vivid contrasting colors to create this dramatic snow scene using watercolors. I'm fascinated by moose, love to hear their call, and although I've never seen one, I look for them while hiking the mountains in Utah and Colorado. Although a chilly scene, I promise it will bring warmth and generate interesting conversation in your home or office.
Crashing Waves on Rocky Beach Oil Painting
Crashing Waves on Rocky Beach Oil PaintingIt's obvious this painting is a scene of waves crashing onto rocks. But there's more....This composition was designed to move your eye clockwise starting at the light blue sky at left, moving across the waves splashing up along the top of the rocks, down and around observing the part of the rock that's submerged under water. I enjoyed choosing colors to playfully add excitement, incorporating "soft-edged" strokes of color and splattering techniques.
Catamaran on Hilton Head Beach 16 x 20 Oil Painting
Catamaran on Hilton Head Beach 16 x 20 Oil PaintingI seem to gravitate toward vacationing on islands and discovering what makes them unique and special. I love Hilton Head Island for it’s 12 miles of pristine, sandy beaches that are made of crushed seashells densely packed to form a firm surface making it perfect for biking, walking and running. I highly recommend renting a condo in one of Hilton Head’s Plantations or a suite in one of the hotels along the beach with friends and family.Take in the sights of the blue Atlantic, gorgeous homes along the beach and search for a catamaran or two tucked into sand dunes at the top of the beach like I painted using oils on canvas. To order prints or other specialty items go to BethBasista.pixels.com
A Splash of Magnolia Watercolor
A Splash of Magnolia WatercolorI like how I don’t have to paint white when using watercolors - all I have to do is avoid painting the paper where I want the white to be. To preserve the white in watercolor paintings, artists use masking fluid to block out specific areas. For this painting I didn’t block out the white area, but was careful to leave some white area indicating the highlights. I like to switch from painting in oils to painting in watercolors and can honestly say I don’t have a preference. I love how the paints flow with watercolors and love how the paints blend when using oils. To order prints or specialty products visit: BethBasista.pixels.com
Lonely Teddy Bear Oil Painting
Lonely Teddy Bear Oil PaintingWhen a child leaves home for college, it can be bittersweet. I admit I was one of those moms who took way too long to redecorate my son’s room. One day as I passed by his room, I noticed how beautifully the sun peeked through the blinds lighting up his teddy bear, pillow, rocket, books and toys. After taking a photo, I finally turned the room into a guest room.Collectors and Decorators like this painting for decorating a child’s bedroom or playroom.Go to: BethBasista.pixels.com for prints, totes, and other specialty items.
Island House Hotel Mackinac Island 18 x 24 Oil Painting
Island House Hotel Mackinac Island 18 x 24 Oil PaintingWhile vacationing on Mackinac Island I stayed with friends at the Victorian style Island House Hotel, built in 1852. Using oils on canvas, I painted the right-hand side of the hotel viewed from the bottom of its driveway. The horse and buggy taxi is waiting to transport a bride to her wedding with a few of my friends watching from the front porch.Mackinac Island has a ban on motorized vehicles requiring its residents and guests to travel by foot, bike or horse and buggy. I enjoy riding my bike along its 8.3 mile perimeter and climbing up 320 feet to see the historic Fort Holmes. If I talked you into vacationing on the island I highly recommend watching the movie "Somewhere in Time” staring Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve” that was filmed on the island. Egret the Fisherman
Egret the FishermanEgrets can be very entertaining as this one was when I watched him land on the back deck of a fishing boat as it moved to the dock after a fishing trip. Then he hopped out onto the dock and waited for the bait box to be emptied out before diving in for an easy catch. That's the true story behind this painting you can share with those who see this print in your home, office or on one of the specialty items. Pelican Take Off into the Sunset 24 x 30 Mixed Media
Pelican Take Off into the Sunset 24 x 30 Mixed MediaWhile kayaking through mangrove tunnels leading to Pelican Bay, I took a lot of photos to refer to including photos of this Pelican that took off just as I approached the post it was perched on. I replaced the background with an orange-dominated sunset for this 24" x 30" painting on canvas using acrylics and oils.Did you know….When observing art in churches around the world, you may be surprised to find pelicans. In Asia and Europe many believed pelican mothers would be so devoted to their young that if starving, they would use their sharp beak to peck at their own breast to feed their blood to their young. Although this is not true, the pelican has been revered as a symbol of the loving sacrifice of Jesus Christ. To order prints or other specialty items go to: BethBasista.pixels.com
Jimmy's HideAway Provincetown, Cape Cod Acrylic Painting
Jimmy's HideAway Provincetown, Cape Cod Acrylic PaintingWhile vacationing with family in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, we included a day visiting the small coastal resort town of Provincetown. My family patiently waited as I walked into all the art galleries along Commercial Street. We took lots of photos of the many unique shops and restaurants like the very popular Jimmy’s Hideaway Restaurant. I hear their food is delicious, but since we didn’t have a reservation, I was happy to at least capture photos I referred to for this painting.I chose using acrylics for this painting, knowing it would make it easier than oils to capture the many details in this painting on canvas. Dolphins Ride the Waves 16x20 Mixed Media
Dolphins Ride the Waves 16x20 Mixed MediaFor this painting I blended my skills utilizing acrylic pour and oils on a 16” x 20” canvas. I kept my paint stokes loose and incorporated modeling paste to help the dolphins jump up out over the waves. It’s such a rewarding sight to see their playfulness and attentiveness to each other as they swim close to you. I’ve been told they enjoy watching people in captivity.
